SUMMER COURT RECESS

The ICTY summer recess starts on Monday 28 July 2014. During the recess, there will be no trials, status conferences or other hearings. The trial of Goran Hadzic, who is currently testifying in his own defense will resume on Tuesday, 19 August 2014. The trial of Ratko Mladich will continue a week later, on 25 August 2014.

SENSE will report on any extraordinary events if they occur.

DOUBLE GENOCIDE REMAINS IN MLADIC’S INDICTMENT

Mladic’s motion against the Trial Chamber’s decision confirming the first two counts in the indictment – genocide in six BH municipalities in 1992, and in Srebrenica in 1995 – was rejected today. The prosecution called sufficient evidence capable of supporting a conviction for the accused’s involvement in both genocides, the Appeals Chamber ruled

HADZIC’S ‘POLITICAL GAMES’

Former prime minister of the Serb Autonomous Region of Eastern Slavonia and president of the Republic of Serbian Krajina maintains that he ‘condemned every instance of injustice and all crimes’ he was aware of. Hadzic denied that he threatened Croats and called for their expulsion in his public appearances. As he explained, those were his ‘political games’ intended to foment conflict between ‘peaceful and aggressive Croats’
